Francesco Curcio of Prahran, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born in 1856 in Marsicovetere, Province of Potenza County, Basilicata Italy to Giacomo Antonio Curcio and Maria Rosa Vita Curcio. He had a brother Domenico Curcio. He married Giuseppina Evangelista Curcio, and had children Umberto Luigi Curcio and Adelina (Curcio) Binotto. Francesco Curcio died at age 66 years old in 1922 in Clifton Hill, City of Yarra County, VIC Australia.

In 1856, in the year that Francesco Curcio was born, on February 18th, The American Party, also called the "Know-Nothings" because they were an anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant movement, assembled in Philadelphia to nominate their first Presidential candidate, former President Millard Fillmore. The party sought to keep the "purity" of elections by blocking "impure" foreigners.

In 1888, by the time he was 32 years old, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!
