Introduction

Frederic served in the military during World War 2. He wed twice: 1st in July 1942 in Charleston, W.V. to Frances Dean Reed ( later divorced ) and had 2 children. He wed 2nd on Feb.20,1956 to Frances Ann Detamore, b. Dec.9,1920 > U.S.A. < Sept.20,1995 and had 1 child by his 2nd wife and adopted another child. This writer had a chance to talk with him by phone and he had an interest in the family genealogy. He had a plain and clear speaking voice.

In 1916, in the year that Frederic Leake Jr. was born, suffragette Jeannette Pickering Rankin became the first woman elected to the House of Representatives as a Representative at large from Montana. She was the first woman to hold an elected Federal office. Holding the office for two years, she ran again in 1940 and served another two year term. Montana had granted women unrestricted voting rights in 1914, 6 years before women got the vote nationally.
