  • Introduction

George was my great grandfather through his daughter, Xoe Johnson Milligan. He met me, but I barely remember him. I might have gone to his wake in 1946. Somebody lifted me up so that I see him, but I didn't like seeing him that way and demanded to be put down. This also could have been Xillon who died in 1947 but I doubt it. My mother and grandmother told me that I was his favorite. When I was a baby and saw him come through the door while standing in my playpen, I would lift up my arms and demanded to be lifted out. Maybe that's why he liked me. They say that we would play and play for hours (he was supposed to be running errands for my grandmother Gigi). He was living with Gigi at the time and I really don't know why. She eventually found a home for retired printers but, he hated it so she had to go and bring him back to her home. My grandmother could be bossy and somewhat controlling and I wonder if she made arrangements for him to live in in printers home without his knowledge?? Whatever, he died in Chicago and is buried at Lincoln memorial park in Mokena, Illinois. I vaguely, vaguely remember our play dates and am glad that he and I established a relationship before he died. I'm sure we had a grand old time. I
