Tragedy befalls two with South Belt Ties
Tragedy befalls two with South Belt Ties
Two separate tragedies occurred this past week that are connected to the South Belt Community. Area resident, Angelica Del Valle Thomas, was the lone survivor in a triple shooting that took place in an apartment complex parking lot in Webster Saturday, October 2.

According to police, the shootings occurred when Thomas, 23, along with her friend Jessica Davies, 24, of Friendswood, went to confront Germain Jimenez, Davies' sister's ex-boyfriend at the Hidden Lakes apartment complex in the 900 block of Henderson. Jimenez, 33, had reportedly been harassing Davies' sister following their recent break-up. When the two women left Jimenez's apartment, he followed them outside and shot each of them multiple times as they were entering their vehicles.

A good Samaritan attempted to come to Thomas' aid, but Jimenez forced hi at gunpoint to move her car so he could exit the complex. Contrary to other media reports, Jimenez ran over Thomas as he fled the scene, rather than Davies. Witnesses were able to identify Jimenez's vehicle to Webster police, and a short chase ensued. Police cornered Jimenez in a strip center parking lot at Egret Bay and NASA Road 1, where they found him dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Both women were Life Flighted to Hermann Memorial Hospital - Texas Medical Center, where Davies was later pronounced dead. At press time, Thomas remained in critical but stable condition. According to family members, she had undergone four surgeries, but would require several more. Webster police say Jimenez and Davies' unidentified sister had broken up roughly three weeks earlier following a two-and-a-half year relationship. Approximately one week before the shootings, the Houston Police Department visited the ex-girlfriend's place of employment because Jimenez had reportedly sent her more than 100 threatening text messages.

On Thursday, September 30, Webster police responded to an incident at Jimenez's apartment where the two had gotten into a physical altercation, but the ex-girlfriend refused to press charges on him. Houston police again visited the ex-girlfriend's work on the day of the shootings after Jimenez had showed up and caused a disturbance, prompting Davies and Thomas to later intervene.

One of the first 50 babies to be born at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, Thomas is a lifelong South Belt resident, having attended Frazier Elementary, Thompson Intermediate and Dobie High School.

Webster police: Man allegedly kills 1 woman, injures another . . .
. . . BEFORE KILLING SELF

WEBSTER Police released the name of the victims of an apartment lot shooting that left one woman dead and another seriously wounded Saturday. The name of the alleged shooter, who died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, also was made public Sunday. The shooting was the result of an apparent squabble between the man accused of killing one woman and critically wounding another after they confronted him at his apartment and accused him of threatening one of the womens' sister, who was also the man s ex-girlfriend, Webster police said. Germain Jimenez, 33, of Webster, reportedly shot and killed Jessica Davies, 24, of Friendswood, and shot and seriously injured Angelica Thomas, 26, in the parking lot of the Hidden Lakes Apartments in the 900 block of Henderson Road in Webster on Saturday afternoon.

Jimenez reportedly also ran over one of the women after he shot both as he tried to make an escape. He was found dead a short time later in his car. Police said he shot himself. The suspect and the sister of one of the victims had been dating for two-and-a-half years but had broken up three weeks ago, Webster Police Chief Ray Smiley said via a news release. Webster police said since the break up, the ex-girlfriend had called Houston police to her place of work because she said her ex sent her more than 100 threatening text messages to her. She also called Webster police one night accusing her ex of pushing and kicking her during an argument last week.

On the day of the shooting, police said Jimenez showed up at his ex-girlfriend's workplace and caused a scene that prompted police to be called. The woman was told by her employers to leave work and not return until today. The ex-girlfriend's sister and a friend decided to confront Jimenez at his apartment Saturday. Police did not identify which of the women shot Saturday was the ex-girlfriend's sister. After the confrontation, Jimenez reportedly followed the two women into the apartment complex parking lot. When the sister of the man s ex-girlfriend got out of her car to confront Jimenez, he opened fire, police said. He then went to the open door of the car and shot the other woman. He shot both women several times, Smiley said. Jimenez got into his car and drove off just as police arrived at the apartment complex. Officers chased and cornered Jimenez in the parking lot of a shopping center at the intersection of Egret Bay Boulevard and NASA Parkway. When police approached the vehicle, they found Jimenez dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Smiley said.

Thomas remained in the hospital Sunday in critical condition, Smiley said. Police also are checking into a friend's story that Jimenez reportedly called him on Friday and said he was angry, had a handgun, and was pacing the floor. The friend reportedly calmed Jimenez down and did not report the incident to police, Smiley said. Anyone with information about the shootings should call Webster police at 281-332-2426.

Breakup leads to triple shooting in Webster
A Webster man is dead and two women were Life Flighted to Hermann Memorial Hospital in extremely critical condition Saturday afternoon after a triple shooting in Webster.

One of the women, identified as Jessica Davies, 24, of Friendswood, was pronounced dead at the hospital while the other, Angelica Thomas, 26, was still listed in critical condition.

Webster Police Chief Ray Smiley identified the gunman as Germain Jimenez, 33, who lived at the apartment complex at 900 Henderson Road, where the shootings took place. The shootings, in the parking area under the Hidden Lakes Apartment Complex in the Tranquility Lake area off Egret Bay Boulevard, stemmed from the man’s recent break-up with his girlfriend, Smiley said. “The suspect and the sister of one of the victims had been dating for the last 2½ years but had broken up three weeks ago,” Smiley said as his officers worked the scene. The man and the ex-girlfriend had been arguing over the past two days.

Then, Smiley said, “On Saturday, Oct. 2, the suspect went to his ex-girlfriend’s place of employment and caused a disturbance to which the Houston Police Department was called. The suspect left the scene and returned to his apartment, but the ex-girlfriend was sent home by her employer and she called her sister to tell her the news. Smiley said Sunday that Davies was the ex-girlfriend’s sister. “The sister and a friend went to the suspect’s apartment and confronted him about the continued harassment of his ex-girlfriend. As the two women were leaving the parking lot the suspect followed them and shot Davies multiple times as she was getting out of her vehicle.

“The suspect then went to the other vehicle and shot Thomas multiple times. A Good Samaritan came to her aid but the suspect, at gunpoint, made him pull Thomas’ vehicle several yards away so he, Jimenez, could escape in his own vehicle. As the suspect fled the scene he ran over Davies, who was lying in the driveway.” Smiley said officers were arriving at the scene just as the suspect was leaving. “A short chase ensued until the suspect pulled into a strip center parking lot at Egret Bay and NASA Parkway. Officers ordered him to show his hands but he did not.” As they neared the vehicle, they found he had shot himself in the head and was dead.

The chief said the ex-girlfriend was not involved in the shootings, which left neighbors startled, as they were planning weekend swim parties and other get-togethers. “We only average about one murder every two years,” Smiley said, going on to detail the events leading up to the shootings, which he said had their origin back “about a week ago when the ex-girlfriend called Houston Police to her work place and made a report alleging that the suspect had sent her over 100 threatening text messages. “On Wednesday, Sept. 29, the suspect had picked up his ex-girlfriend and they had gone to his apartment. On Thursday, the 30th, the suspect and ex-girlfriend had gotten into an argument and the suspect physically forced her out of his apartment and told her to get her own ride home. She called us and an officer took her home. She said the suspect had pushed and kicked her but she did not want to file any charges.

“On Friday night, Oct. 1, the suspect called a friend and told him he was pacing the floor of his apartment with his handgun and was mad. The friend came over and calmed him down and left but did not contact the police. “On Saturday, Oct. 2, the suspect went to his ex-girlfriends place of employment,” setting off the fatal confrontation.

Anyone having information about this incident is urged to contact the Webster Police Department at 281-332-2426.
