Guy John Gates of Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington was born on June 12, 1896 in Welcome to Henry Augustine Gates and Caroline Cynthia (Riddle) Gates. He had siblings Anna Mary Gates and Henry Augustine Gates Junior. Guy Gates died at age 88 years old on April 24, 1985 in Bellingham, and was buried at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale.

Introduction

Guy John Gates was born 12 June 1896 in Welcome, Washington the oldest son of Henry Augustine Gates and his wife Caroline Cynthia Riddle Gates (my 3rd great Grandparents). The small town where he was born was named after his Grandfather John Welcome Riddle who was the postmaster. His Grandparents John W and Susan Caroline (Tomlinson) Riddle were pioneers of Whatcom, Washington having arrived there from Texas in 1886. He Married Katherine Ziemba in 1914 and they had 6 children. Guy John died 24 April 1985 in Bellingham and is buried in Ferndale Washington

Guy's 2nd Great Grandfather immigrated here in 1802 his name was Johann Gotilieb Goetzfrom Germany. And like so many he changed his name to John Caleb Gates. From his mother's side his ancestors came from England as early as 1640 and were many of the Forefather's of our nation such as Benjamin Franklin who was Guy's 3rd or 4th Grand Uncle, and George Washington was also his 3rd or 4th Grand Uncle.
