He had siblings Charlotte Isobelle Brereton, Agnes May (Brereton) Rogers, Elsie Jane Brereton, Walter Theodore Brereton, Campbell Albert Brereton, John Henry "Jack" Brereton, Alfred Thomas Brereton, James Stanley "Jim" Brereton, and Arthur William Brereton. Harold Brereton died at age 76 years old in 1974 in Morwell, Latrobe City County.

In 1898, in the year that Harold Rueben "Harry" Brereton was born, on March 24th, Robert Allison of Pennsylvania became the first person to buy an American-built car. He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American. The Winton, built in Ohio, was made by hand and came with a leather roof, padded seats, gas lamps, and tires made by B.F. Goodrich.

So the Japan fleet launched a surprise attack on the Russian Navy and a one year war began. President Roosevelt of the United States brokered peace between the two nations. It was the first time in the modern era that an Asian power showed its dominance over a European power.
