He had siblings Charlotte Isobelle Brereton, Agnes May (Brereton) Rogers, Elsie Jane Brereton, Campbell Albert Brereton, John Henry "Jack" Brereton, Harold Rueben "Harry" Brereton, Alfred Thomas Brereton, James Stanley "Jim" Brereton, and Arthur William Brereton. Walter Brereton married Olive Ruth Williams in 1921, and died at age 74 years old on February 13, 1971 in Pambula, Bega Valley Shire Council County, NSW.
