Harold Thomas Williams was born in 1901 to William Wright Williams Sr. and Lula Estelle (Boatright) Williams, and had siblings Chester Clay Williams, Blanche Williams, Nannie (Williams) Sustare, Dennie Carl Williams, William Wright Williams Jr., and Ward Allison Williams. Harold Williams died at age 68 years old in 1969.

In 1901, in the year that Harold Thomas Williams was born, Edward VII succeeded Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria of England had become Queen in 1837 and reigned until her death in 1901. Her 63 year reign was the longest in history prior to Elizabeth II who recently broke her record. The time during which she led the country was known as the Victorian era and she presided over great changes in the United Kingdom, including the expansion of the British Empire and the Industrial Revolution.

In 1913, at the age of just 12 years old, Harold was alive when the Philippine–American War ended for good in June. While the official end of the war was in 1902, fighting continued for several years. An estimated 200,000 to 250,000 total Filipino civilians died and although the U.S. viewed its role as a colonial presence as one of preparing the Philippines for independence, American colonization drastically changed the character off the culture. The Catholic Church was no longer the state religion and English became the primary language of the government.
