2 Memories, Stories & Photos about Helen

Sonia Ethel krook or Ethel Sonia as we knew her was my mother. She married my father George Allan Grundy in 1940 and after George's death in 1963, she married her second husband, Ronald Albert Ashworth, in 1964. Ron also passed away some years later, and mum continued on with her life quietly. She was a hard working simple lady, and had a great sense of humour. She had 6 living children with George and sadly lost another 3 through miscarriages and still birth, and one of her sons died in her arms with pneumonia. I am the eldest of her children , myself, Helen Sonia, Graham Francis (dec) , Allan Geoffrey, Robert John, Joan Carol and Colin Douglas (dec). Ethel died of heart failure in 1997 and is laid to rest with Ronald in the Inglewood Cemetery, Victoria Australia. One of her stories as a girl was that she had 2 white fluffy cats which she dressed up in doll's clothes and wheeled them around Carlton a suburb of Melbourne, in her doll pram. She often talked of Peter her father who died in our home in Port M elbourne's where she and we lived with our dad and mum and, and her mother Florence, and the great love that Peter and Florence shared.

My name is Helen Perkins, Krook was my mother's maiden name. Monne Ferrari was my great grandmother on my mother's side. Monne's son Peter was my maternal grandfather. He died at age of 92 at our home in Port Melbourne in 1947. I do not know Monne's story, but here is what I know. Peter arrived in Victoria Australia, as a young man after WW1, and fell in love with Florence Elizabeth Marrion, a French Catholic. He was Jewish. My mother Ethel Sonia Krook was their only child. The name Monne Ferrari is listed on Peter's death records, ie Ferrari is shown as a surname. Peter died when I was 6 years old, he had been a gifted polyglot and worked for the Victoria police as a translator. He had also owned a coach building business. I have a photo of him taken in Shanghai, and have a beautiful wooden travel trunk owned by him and passed to my mother. I would love to know more of Monne and Moss. I understand my grandfather Peter was born in Transvaal. They would be proud of the family that has come from their union.
