Howard Elmer Hendee (or fondly known as Bud) was born in Webster, Monroe County, New York. He joined the Navy during WWII as a photographer. He met his wife, Virginia Arlene Hendee In Washington, D.C. during this time. They moved to Webster, NY where the built their home with the help of the carpenter "Jim". They had three children; Joanne, Paul and Stephen. Howard worked at the Eastman Kodak Company until he retired in 1973. He and Virginia then retired to Bradenton, Florida.

In 1925, in the year that Howard Elmer Hendee was born, in July, the Scopes Trial - often called the Scopes Monkey Trial - took place, prosecuting a substitute teacher for teaching evolution in school. Tennessee had enacted a law that said it was "unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school". William Jennings Bryan headed the prosecution and Clarence Darrow headed the defense. The teacher was found guilty and fined $100. An appeal to the Supreme Court of Tennessee upheld the law but overturned the guilty verdict.

In 1951, Howard was 26 years old when on February 27th, the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution (which limited the number of terms a president may serve to two) was ratified by 36 states, making it a part of the U.S. Constitution. The Amendment was both a reaction to the 4 term Roosevelt presidency and also the recognition of a long-standing tradition in American politics.

In 1966, he was 41 years old when on July 1st, Medicare became available after President Johnson signed into law the Medicare Act in 1965. President Truman had received the first Medicare card since he had been the first to propose national healthcare law. insurance.

In 1977, he was 52 years old when on May 25th, Star Wars premiered in theaters. Eventually, it became the highest-grossing film of all time - until E.T. surpassed it a few years later. It was an immediate hit with theatergoers.

In 1992, in the year of Howard Elmer Hendee's passing, in April, Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia. The newly created Bosnian Serb army then began a campaign against Muslim Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats - killing, raping, torturing, beating and robbing - and resulting in the deaths of over 100,000.
