Isabella (Thompson) Krygger of Ballarat Victoria Australia was born in 1837 at Tyrone Ireland. She was married to Peter Krygger, and had children Sarah Jane Krygger, Alexander Krygger, John Krygger, Thomas Krygger, Johanna Krygger Reed, and Dinah (Krygger) Rowley. Isabella Krygger died at age 84 years old in 1921, and was buried in Ballarat, Ballarat City County, VIC.

In 1837, in the year that Isabella Thompson Krygger was born, on February 25th, in Philadelphia, the Institute for Colored Youth (ICY) - the oldest African-American university in the United States - was founded. It was the first institution for the higher education of black people in the United States. Founded by Quaker Richard Humphreys who gave $10,000 to establish the school, it still exists today - although the location has moved and it has been renamed Cheyney University. Humphreys was concerned about the struggles of free African Americans to make a living.

In 1844, at the age of merely 7 years old, Isabella was alive when in June and July, the "Great Flood of 1844" occurred on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers - the largest flood recorded in that area. The population in the area was sparse at the time, though, so the flood didn't have a lot of economic impact. The biggest loss was to the Wyandot Indians - 100 people died from diseases caused by the flood.
