Ivy May Leckie 1903 - 1988

Ivy May Leckie of Ballarat, City of Ballarat County, VIC Australia was born in 1903 in Ballarat to Elizabeth Maud (Sargent) Leckie and William John George Leckie. She had siblings Violet Maud Leckie, William Victor Leckie, Ethel Mavis Leckie, Seymour Leckie, Walter Leonard Leckie, Selena Leckie, Alan Ellis Leckie, and Albert Edwin Leckie. She married Francis Arthur Beacham in 1923, and had a child Lawrence Elwyn Beacham. Ivy Leckie died at age 84 years old in 1988 in Ballarat.

In 1903, in the year that Ivy May Leckie was born, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company was begun by two childhood friends, William Harley and Arthur Davidson - with help from Arthur's brother, Walter. Their first prototype - a "motor-bicycle" - couldn't climb hills without also pedaling, so they went back to the drawing board, and in 1904 their new version came in 4th in a race. Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company were the only two major motorcycle companies to survive the Great Depression.

In 1928, when she was 25 years old, Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.
