James Edward Freeman was born in 1861 in Carlton, Melbourne City County, VIC Australia to James Freeman and Mary Ann (Mortimer) Freeman, and had siblings Anna Elizabeth (Freeman) Mallett, John Mortimer Freeman, William George Freeman, and Mary Jane (Freeman) Duncan. He married Elizabeth Belle (May) Freeman, and had children Laura Belle (Freeman) Wilkinson, Stanley Mortimer Freeman, John James Freeman, Harold George Freeman, and William Edward Freeman. James Freeman died at age 76 years old on August 13, 1938 in Maffra, Wellington Shire County.

FREEMAN.- On August 13, at Streeton Park Private Hospital, Maffra, James Edward Freeman, dearly beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Belle, and loving father of the late Laura ( Mrs. Wilkinson ), Stanley Mortimer ( killed in action in France ), John James, Harold George, and William Edward.
