His father goes by Jack and it is said he was lost at sea on the voyage to America. He married Sarah Fleming in Amelia Co., VA, went to Nottaway Co. and settled in Smyth co. His son James Hardaway Freeman fought in the civil war and made shoes for the soldiers.

I'm not sure how many times Jerome had been married. I just know that I (Michelle) was his last wife. Regardless of why our marriage ended Jerome was always a part of my family. He loved my kids and was a good man. We talked multiple times a week up to his passing. He nicknamed my daughter Sierra, "Princess". Sierra and Jerome had a very special bond.
