Jane Ann (Hogarth) Walters of Castlemaine, Mount Alexander Shire County, VIC Australia was born circa 1857 at Blackheath in Greater London County, England United Kingdom to Henry Hogarth and Jane Atkinson Hogarth. She had siblings George Hogarth, Margaret Hogarth, William Hogarth, Joseph Hogarth, and George Hogarth. She married George William Walters in 1881, and had children Arthur Walters, Mary Walters, Emily Walters, Henry Walters, Margaret Walters, Ann Walters, Maria Walters, and Marie Walters. Jane Walters died at age 67 years old in 1924 in Castlemaine, Mount Alexander Shire County, VIC Australia.

In 1857, in the year that Jane Ann Hogarth Walters was born, on March 2nd, the largest slave auction in US history was begun. Called "The Weeping Time", the auction lasted 2 days. Slave owner Pierce M. Butler - who had inherited the slaves 20 years before but was now deeply in debt - sold 436 men, women, children, and infants, all of whom were kept in stalls at a racetrack in Savannah, Georgia. The people were held for weeks before the auction in the horse stalls.
