Jean Brown of Australia was born in 1846 to Flora Cooper Brown and John Brown. She had siblings John Henry Brown, Lindsey Gordon Brown, Florence Vera Brown, Ruby Vic Brown, Ronald Keith Brown, Ida Lillian Oneill, and Elizabeth Hazel Brown. Jean Brown died at age 7 years old in 1853.

In 1846, in the year that Jean Brown was born, on February 26th, the Liberty Bell was rung for George Washington's birthday. It is said that when it was rung, a previous crack was worsened, leading to the crack seen today. A paper of the time said that at "around noon, it was discovered that the ringing had caused the crack to be greatly extended, and that the old Independence Bell...now hangs in the great city steeple irreparably cracked and forever dumb".

In 1850, Jean was just 4 years old when on March 19th, American Express was started as an express mail service. Henry Wells & William Fargo joined forces - each had a delivery service - to found the company. At the beginning, express delivery in New York was virtually monopolized by American Express - which is now a financial services company.
