    Jerry Bowers Oliver was born to Jerry B Oliver and Fannie Bouers (also spelled Bowers). He married Dixie Oliver on February 28th 1953 and they divorced on January 12th 1973 in Gray Texas after having five children together. According to his World War 2 Draft Registration card he was living at 423 Halem Street in Pampa, Gray, Texas and worked at an electric service company named R. F. Derksin at 802 W. Foster St. Pampa Texas. He weighed 152 pounds, had a light brown complexion was 5' 10" tall and had blue yes and black hair. He listed Fannie Oliver as his next of kin.     The following appeared on Thursday July 19th 1973 in the Pampa Daily News in Pampa Texas: Jerry B. Oliver Funeral services for Jerry B. Oliver, 69, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Duenkel Memorial Chapel with Rev. L.B. Davis, pastor of the Progressive Baptist Church officiating. Internment will be in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Duenkel Funeral Home. Mr. Oliver is survived by three sons, four daughters, his mother and two brothers.

In 1904, in the year that Jerry Oliver was born, the United States acquired the Panama Canal Zone. Now an unincorporated territory of the U.S., the Canal Zone had been previously held by the French, who were constructing a canal. The U.S. took over the construction of the Panama Canal and it was finally finished in 1914, when it was opened to commercial shipping. The United States held the Canal Zone until 1979.

In 1924, at the age of 20 years old, Jerry was alive when in May, wealthy college students Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb kidnapped and killed 14 year old Robert Franks "in the interest of science". Leopold and Loeb thought that they were intellectually superior and that they could commit the perfect crime and not be caught. They were brought in for questioning within 8 days and quickly confessed. Clarence Darrow was hired as their defense lawyer, getting them life imprisonment instead of a death sentence. Loeb was eventually killed in prison - Leopold was released after 33 years, dying of a heart attack at age 66.
