John H. Brown 1816 - 1904

John H. Brown was born on January 21, 1816 in Salamanca, Cattagarus County, New York USA to Joseph Jacob Brown and Rachel Anna Carrier. They married Margaret Tate, and they had children Rachel Ellen Brown, Hannah Jane Brown, John Jr Brown, Maggie Brown, and Esther Lititia Brown. John's partner was Catherine Domer, and they had children Wesley Mathis Brown, Martha Ann Brown, John Henry Brown, Jacob Fletcher Brown, Susannah Brown, Dama Alice Brown, and Hulda Mary Brown. John Brown died at age 87 years old on January 14, 1904 in Rockland, Venango County, PA.

    Notes for JOHN H. BROWN: John Brown, oldest child of Joseph and Rachel, came to Western Pennsylvania when a young man & settled in Rockland Township, Venango Co., Pa. His first wife was Margaret Tate. They lived at Brandon Ferry on the Allegheny River and she is buried in a small cemetery. She was born in 1824 and died in 1848. After the death of his first wife, he was married to Catherine Domer on Feb. 20, 1850. He purchased a part of the Domer Farm and built a log house at first. Later he built a frame house where he lived the rest of his life. The house still stands ans is in use by Wilbur Mahle. It is near Domer Chapel. John Brown died Jan. 14, 1904. His obituary was printed in the Franklin paper, The Citizen Press, and I (Mabel Manson) have pasted a copy by my mother in the record.

In 1832, when this person was 16 years old, on November 14th, Charles Carroll - the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence - died at his home in Maryland. He was 95 years old. He signed the Declaration as "Charles Carroll of Carrollton", distinguishing him from several other Charles Carroll's who were living in the area at the time.
