My older brother was an addict but he gave up drugs, booze, gambling and smoking and lived to be 75. One time I told him off, and said, "You can't fool God!" He was beaten into a coma by drug dealers and during the time he was in his coma, all he could hear was, "You can't fool God!" And when he awoke he decided to repent and change his ways. For 25 he was clean and sober and regained his self-respect and the respect of others. He had a very large funeral.

One day after 50 years an old lady called me up to thank me. She had no date for the Prom at the Waldorf Astoria with a real orchestra and Lobster Newburg and afterward a limo to the Copacabana and then home. I sent Johnny in his Marine Dress Blues looking like Paul Newman and a terrific dancer. She looked beautiful and he was a dream date. She said because of me it was one of the happiest nights of her life instead of a disaster.

My brother Johnny was exceptionally generous to me when I was suddenly poor, and he literally fed me for months. I will miss him for the rest of my life. He was a film buff and chess player like me.
