He was in a relationship with Julian (Erb) Starry, and had children Julia A (Starry) Dunmire, Leah (Starry) Kelly, William Turney Starry, Levi C. Starry, and Margaret Jane (Starry) Erb. Levi Starry died at age 71 years old on November 13, 1894, and was buried in November 1894 at Blairsville Cemetery 609 E.Market Street, in Blairsville, Indiana County.

In 1823, in the year that Levi Carson Starry was born, on February 20th, British explorer James Weddell's expedition to Antarctica traveled 532 miles south of the Antarctic Circle - the southernmost position any ship had reached before. It would be more than 80 years before anyone sailed farther. The region of the Southern Ocean that he explored was later named the Weddell Sea.
