  • Ethnicity & Family History

Andy was born in Iowa, 1929. His mother left Andy and his father. Not sure how his dad knew a single woman at Lake Dallas, Texas during the Depression, but his dad packed them up and moved to Lake Dallas, where he married a divorced woman with two young sons. I vividly recall visiting one time and mom and dad’s stepmom were fixing breakfast. I reached up and grabbed the skillet handle and hot grease missed my head, but poured over my left foot. Grandpa and dad raced me to the hospital and I was most lucky that nerves were not destroyed in my foot. I still have the scar to remember what occurred and it is a vivid memory etched in my mind.
  • Early Life & Education

Dad did not complete high school, but received his GED after joining the Army Air Corp when he was 17 and served honorably 28 years when he retired from the USAF. Dad was always studying to improve his chances for advancement in the USAF and had to study harder than most, because he had a learning disability. He reached the rank of Senior Master Sargent in the USAF before retiring honorably in 1971.
  • Religious Beliefs

No, dad was not religious or spiritual. In fact, he would chase preachers away if the came to our home to Proselytize to him and I recall a couple times he told the minister in no uncertain terms, “This was not the time or place to be praying!”
