Joseph Balachowski:
Trying to solve a mystery. - Karol Bienko and my father, Joseph Balachowski were fellow partisans in the Polish Home Army during WWII, in the eastern part of Poland that now belongs to Ukraine.
During the war they operated out of a farm where my father met my future mother. At the end of WWII my parents ended up in a displaced persons camp in Salzburg, Austria. According to them, Karol disappeared.
In 1948 my parents emigrated to the United States. After my father retired from teaching at a California college, my parents retired to Hemet, CA. This is less than 100 miles from Desert Hot Springs, CA, where Karol Bienko spent his last days. My father passed away in 1989.
I am not sure this was a coincidence. It's possible Mr. Bienko somehow found my father. But did they ever communicate?
Does anyone out there know this story? I would love to hear from you.

Radio Row - As grade-school aged kids in Brooklyn we were allowed to cross just one street when we were playing (walking to school was the exception). However, we reasoned that riding the subway into Manhattan didn't count as crossing streets. Cortland Street had surplus stores with electronics and military stuff. (Surplus insect repellant could be used for great stink-bombs)! It was hard to keep our trip a secret when the two of us returned home carrying an old oscilloscope (not solid state in those days; just tubes).

My dad has always been a hard worker . When he's not working he would be outside either working on his garden , cleaning up the yard or chopping wood . When he would take a break I can always remember him drinking a bud light. Smoking a cigarette. Scratching a lottery ticket. My dad wasn't to much of a jokester he would get all upset if we played to much . .. a Great Dad . He hardly had me nor my brother Nick around. But he's a strong as a bull. Your the greatest dad ...

Deanna a Snapshot. - Deanna was one of those people who would always light up a room. She was a wife a mother and a friend to many. She was ambitious, smart, hard working and resourceful. She was artistic and had an natural flair for decorating. She was a good cook and made some awesome dishes. She loved her family and a good cup of coffee. A life cut way too short from Lung Cancer. After her passing her Sister, Mother and Father all passed away from the effects of smoking tobacco. She would want to warn others that smoking indeed can kill you. She was a Christian woman and loved Jesus. If there is a Heaven then she will be there.

I miss my grandparents very much I find myself always looking back at the times I spent with them granddaddy would show me tricks making quarters disappear he showed me how to play games on paper he would take me to his office we're air plans we're hanging from the ceiling I saw pictures of him and important people like the president my grandfather was so smart and Highly intelligent my grandmother Anne Soule called him gus that was his nickname I have a lot of wonderful memories of my grandparents I would stay the night with my grandmother when granddaddy would go out of town

A friendly man of many skills - Leonard was a family friend and skilled tradesman who helped out in many ways whether it was helping my aging grandfather to update our former apartment, to help my Dad and Unc when they needed a bartender in a pinch in their Bungalow Inn restaurant , or to help my Unc in remodeling his Fox Lake summer cottage into a year round home. .(which offered Leonard some weekend getaway fringe benefits ).We had several rides in his Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser. whatta cool car! I knew he lived w and was taking care of his Mom We lost touch and saddened to hear of his passing
