In 1865, in the year that Marietta Montrose (Dix) was born, on December 24th, 8 months after the end of the Civil War, the Ku Klux Klan was formed in Pulaski, Tennessee by Jonathan Shank and Barry Ownby. They also wanted to repress the newly freed slaves.
