Mary Delight (Dee) Carswell, 85, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. She was born in Spartanburg, S.C., on June 18, 1931, to Mary Alice Gully Allen and Robert Miller Allen. Her father passed away in her infancy.She was raised in Morganton, N.C., by her mother and stepfather, Charles Gray Anderson, and her grandmother, Mary Lou Bristol Gully. Dee graduated high school from the Preparatory Department of Peace College of Raleigh, N.C. She received her Bachelor's degree from Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., and earned herMaster's degree from Radford College. Dee had a 38-year career in education. The last 28 years at Oak Grove Elementary School in Roanoke County, Va., where she served as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, assistant principal and retired in 1998 as principal.Dee was predeceased by first husband, William Henry Kern Jr. and her second husband, Robert W. Carswell Sr., who passed away on June 1, 2011.She is survived by her much loved children and precious grandchildren, Mary Allen Kern Morgan and husband, William Louis Morgan, and their sons, William Daniel Morgan, Timothy Allen Morgan and Stephen Kern Morgan, all of Richmond; William Henry Kern III and his wife, Mendy White Kern, and their children, William Henry Kern IV and Claire Marie Kern, all of Roanoke; and Robert Wade Carswell Jr. and his wife, Jennifer Shropshire Carswell.
