Mary Louise Allen was born on January 19, 1943 in Worcester County, Massachusetts United States to Rita Viola (Painchaud) Allen-Banbury and Joseph Burnside Allen, and had siblings Joseph Victor Allen, Joan Emma (Allen) Meek, James Michael Allen, Sr., Perry Henry Allen, Margaret Elizabeth Moreau-Wynne (Née Allen), and Ann Marie Lyles-Scott (Née Allen). She was the mother of John Joseph Allen. Mary Allen died at age 21 years old on May 19, 1964.

In 1943, in the year that Mary Louise Allen was born, on September 3rd, the Armistice of Cassibile was signed in Sicily. Under the terms of the Armistice, Italy surrendered to the Allied Powers. After the Armistice was made public on September 8th, Germany attacked and occupied Italy. It took 20 months of fighting for the Allies to reach the northern borders of Italy.

In 1950, Mary was just 7 years old when in February, Joe McCarthy gave a speech alleging that he had a list of "members of the Communist Party and members of a spy ring" who worked in the State Department. He went on to chair a committee that investigated not only the State Department but also the administration of President Harry S. Truman, the Voice of America, and the U.S. Army for communist spies - until he was condemned by the U.S. Senate in 1954.
