He was a World War II Army veteran and served in the US Army from April 6, 1942 until Dec 30, 1945. Norris was a teacher and school principal. He started his career at Dunbar High School in Cadiz where he was later principal. He taught math, social studies and adult education at McUpton School in Cadiz. Norris retired after 31 years with the Trigg County School System.

    Norris Crete Baker Sr., 83, Cadiz, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bloomfield Baptist Church, Cadiz, with the Revs. C.L. Brown and E.A. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Cadiz. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Gamble Funeral Home, where visitation with the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. A native of Cadiz, he was born Dec. 25, 1919, the son of the late Johnny and Rosetta Wilford Baker. He was a retired teacher and school principal, having started his career at Dunbar High School in Cadiz where he was later principal. He later taught math, social studies and adult education at McUpton School in Cadiz, retiring after 31 years with the Trigg County School System. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. His wife, Alma Crump Baker, died in 1992. Survivors include five sons, Nathaniel Baker and Hoeston Baker, both of Kokomo, Ind., Norris Baker Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio, Gwendol Baker, Hopkinsville, Alvin Baker, Ashland; six daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Vivian) Baker, Bowling Green, Mrs. Jimmy (Sheneda) Little, Louisville, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Whatron, Cadiz, Almaria Baker, Louisville, Mrs. David (Tanisha) Kabithe, Middletown, Ohio, Celeste Baker, Murray; four brothers, Johnny James Baker, Columbia, S.C., Tommy Lee Baker, East Chicago, Jimmie Lee Baker, Nashville, Tenn., Robert Douglas Baker, Nashville; four sisters, Mrs. Jimmy (Catherine Baker) Zellner, Hopkinsville, Mrs. Joseph (Emma Jane) Webb, Mrs. Price (Susie Mae) Martin, all of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Ernest (Rotressa Baker) Yelling, Lake City, Fla., 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
