As the name suggests, the Fair was suggested as a way to celebrate the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. In 1970, when this person was 66 years old, on May 1st, US troops invaded Cambodia, expanding the Vietnam War. The invasion of Cambodia was a Nixon policy, although it was argued against by both his Secretary of State and his Secretary of Defense.

All 269 passengers (including a U.S. Representative from Georgia) and crew were killed.
