The couple had three children together: a baby girl that did not survive (1932-1932), Robert Miller Ostrander (1933-1992), and David John Ostrander (1935-2016). On October 16, 1940, Robert registered for the draft in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota. At the time, he was employed by the State Highway Department. Robert made the significant decision to enlist on November 11, 1942, in Los Angeles, California as a Private in the Army of the United States.
