Robert Edward Shatraw was born on October 9, 1937 to Edith Mae Shatraw and Aloney Edward Shatraw, and had siblings Loma Ann Lasher, John E Shatraw, Lucina Louise (Shatraw) Harris, Wallace E Shatraw, William Shatraw, Idella Lorene Houle, and Richard Leo Shatraw. He married Penelope Beth (Reichert) Shatraw in 1960, and died at age 64 years old on March 3, 2002. Robert Shatraw was buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3rd Ave Ext, in Rensselaer, Rensselaer County, New York United States.

In 1937, in the year that Robert Edward Shatraw was born, on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction.
