He had siblings Elizabeth M, John William, James Edward, Grace Ardella "Della", Albert Roy, Nellie, Melvin Sr, Pearl, and Robert Charles Smith. (He also had an unnamed sister who died as an infant.) Ronald married Helen Irene Rice (1914 - 2003). They didn't have children. He was survived by several nieces and nephews as well as Anna Jean Holben, a friend.     The following appeared in the Leader Times on May 6, 2010: Ronald Lewis Smith, 85, of North Buffalo Township, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Butler. Born May 8, 1924, in Brady's Bend Township, he was a son of the late James Ray and Etta Kathryn (Best) Smith. A veteran of the Army, he served during World War II, in the Germany Campaign, and was wounded in Luxemburg Jan. 29, 1945. He received the rifle M-1 Sharpshooter Award, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart, one Battle Star and the European-African-Middle Easter Theater ribbon. He was formerly employed by PennDOT in Kittanning and was also a former North Buffalo Township police officer. Mr. Smith was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Manorville, and the NRA. He also enjoyed bowling and going to casinos. He is survived by a niece, Sandy (Thomas) Ager, of Kittanning; his friend, Anna Jean Holben; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen I. (Schrecengost) Smith, who died March 6, 2003; five brothers, James, William, Melvin, Albert and Robert Smith; and three sisters, Dale Whiteman, Nellie Hare and Pearl Herst. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the WELCH FUNERAL HOME, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Andrew Dougherty III officiating. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, East Franklin Township, with full military honors accorded by the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard.
