Services for Royce Clinton Holder, 74, were held at Hamilton Street church of Christ with Ed Jones, minister, officiating. He married Estelle Reeves at Newcastle, Texas in 1926. He had lived in young County most of his life. He retired as an oil field pumper. Holder was a member of the Church of Christ. Survived by his wife; one daughter - Bette Pulliam of Olney; one son - Guy Holder of Olney; three sisters: Ruby Allison, Ruth Tate, and Myrtle Scobee, all of Olney; six brothers: Ollie Holder of Lemoore, California, Melvin Holder of El Monte, California, Sherman Holder of Hobbs, NM, Loyd Holder of Fort Worth, Jack Holder of Jermyn, Clarence Holder of Graham; three grandchildren.

In 1909, in the year that Royce Clinton Holder was born, the U.S. penny was changed to the Abraham Lincoln design. The Lincoln penny was so popular that it soon had to be rationed and it sold on the secondary market for a quarter. Abraham Lincoln was the first historical figure to be on a U.S. coin - which was released to commemorate his 100th birthday. This penny was also the first U.S. cent to include the words "In God We Trust.".

In 1925, when he was 16 years old, gangster Al "Scarface" Capone took over the Chicago bootlegging racket at age 26. Previously right hand man to boss Johnny Torrio, Capone took over when Torrio was shot and severely injured and decided to resign. The bootlegging and brothel organization was massive and when asked what he did, Capone often replied "I am just a businessman, giving the people what they want".

In 1948, he was 39 years old when on May 14th, the State of Israel was proclaimed by David Ben-Gurion, who became Israel's first Premier, and the U.S. officially recognized Israel. That evening, Egypt launched an air assault on Israel.

In 1958, by the time he was 49 years old, on March 24th, Elvis Presley was inducted into the United States Army. Although he could have served in Special Services as an entertainer, he chose to become a regular soldier. Almost everyone thought it would be the end of his career - it wasn't.

In 1984, in the year of Royce Clinton Holder's passing, due to outrage about "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (it seemed too "dark" to many and it was rated PG), a new rating was devised - PG-13. The first film rated PG-13 was "Red Dawn".
