Royce Clinton Holder 1909 - 1984

Royce Clinton Holder was born on April 18, 1909 in Bosque County, Texas United States to Martha Bell (McBride) Holder and William Lee Holder, and had siblings Burley Y. C. Holder, Sr., Lettie Maxine Holder, William Melvin Holder, Clarence Lee Holder, Ruby Louvenia (Holder) Allison, Erma Ruth "Ruth" (Holder) Tate, and Edna Muriel (Holder) Colley-Ward. He married Estelle (Reeves) Holder, and had children Guy Clinton Holder, Peggy Lavon Holder, and Bette Sue (Holder) Pulliam. Royce Holder died at age 75 years old on June 11, 1984 in Olney, Young County.

    Services for Royce Clinton Holder, 74, were held at Hamilton Street church of Christ with Ed Jones, minister, officiating. He married Estelle Reeves at Newcastle, Texas in 1926. He had lived in young County most of his life. He retired as an oil field pumper. Holder was a member of the Church of Christ. Survived by his wife; one daughter - Bette Pulliam of Olney; one son - Guy Holder of Olney; three sisters: Ruby Allison, Ruth Tate, and Myrtle Scobee, all of Olney; six brothers: Ollie Holder of Lemoore, California, Melvin Holder of El Monte, California, Sherman Holder of Hobbs, NM, Loyd Holder of Fort Worth, Jack Holder of Jermyn, Clarence Holder of Graham; three grandchildren.

In 1909, in the year that Royce Clinton Holder was born, the New York Times published the first movie review. It was a report on D.W. Griffith's movie "Pippa Passes" also called "The Song of Conscience", a silent film. The review said that this work was moving away from "lurid material that attracted the wrath of censors and concerned citizens and toward more respectable ends. The movie was the story of a young female factory worker, on her day off, wandering and singing - thus changing the hearts of those around her towards good.
