Susan began her full-time work career at the Mishawaka Rubber Company (also known as Uniroyal or Ball Band) in early 1962, until June of 1963. She then went to work as an insurance agent for Meridian Mutual Insurance Co. in South Bend. She held that job until September of 1965. Susan had her first daughter, Wendy, on January 14, 1966. She had her second daughter, Amy, on August 7, 1968. After that, Susan was very busy being the family mother, doing all the many things that mothers do! :) She enrolled at Indiana University South Bend in 1977, at the age of 34. She graduated with honors from IUSB in 1983. After graduation, she worked in Human Resources at National Standard in Niles, Michigan until 1985. She then worked for the South Bend Medical Foundation, in the Human Resources Department, until 1989. After that, she was employed by United Technologies in Niles, Michigan, again working in the Human Resources Department. When that company closed in 1996 she went to work for Elkhart (Indiana) Products, also in Human Resources. She was employed there for 10 years, before retiring in September of 2006.

In 1943, in the year that Sue Badger was born, on March 31st, the Broadway musical Oklahoma! opened. Written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II (the first of their string of successful collaborations), audiences loved it. The musical ran for 2,212 performances originally and was made into a movie in 1954.

In 1957, by the time she was just 14 years old, on October 4th, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik I, the first man made earth-orbiting satellite - and triggered the Space Race. Sputnik I was only 23 inches in diameter and had no tracking equipment, only 4 antennas, but it had a big impact.

In 1979, when she was 36 years old, on March 28th, a partial nuclear meltdown occurred at the power plant at Three Mile Island Pennsylvania. Radiation leaked into the environment, resulting in a rating of 5 on a scale of 7 ("Accident With Wider Consequences") . It ended up costing $1 billion to clean up the site.

In 1989, when she was 46 years old, on January 20th, George Herbert Walker Bush became the 41st President of the United States. Previously Ronald Regan's Vice President, he ran against Michael Dukakis and won the popular vote by 53.4% to 45.6%.

In 1990, when she was 47 years old, after 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela, the leader of the movement to end South African apartheid was released on February 11th 1990.
