  • Introduction

    Tefik Shehu was my father. He arrived in Australia in 1949 and married Orsalia Defigou in 1954. He had three children - Fatime (Tina), Drita and Bardhyl (Bud). He lived in Melbourne until December 1977 when he and his wife and son moved to Sunnybank Hills in Brisbane. He left Albania for political reasons and never saw his parents or siblings again. His greatest wish to see Albania again, but sadly never came to pass. He was an honest, hard-working man who never harmed anyone. Even though he passed away 32 years ago, l think of him every day. I really wish he could have met my children - Drita, Tefik Junior and Teuta. They would have adored him.

While establishing some independence for the people of Ireland, it did not create a fully independent Ireland and the fighting continued.
Did you know?
In 1937, by the time he was just 15 years old, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
