Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Terry

He is my wise, loving quiet father. He loved watching the show Mash with me (when I had moved away and was visiting). It came on after the news. he looked like Alan Alda (played HAWKEYE on the series). I loved to hear him laugh, that was my favorite part of my dad. I loved riding horses with him. He taught me how to be patient with them and taught me everything I know about horses. He was called by his clients he trained horses for "the Horse Whisperer" He did have a magic way with them. We went from a dairy farm to a cattle ranch about the time I graduated from H.S. He trained cutting horses and competed in ACHA with Quarter Horses. He won lots of buckles saddles and money. His clients adored him and trusted him because he didn't lie to them. He would know with in a week or so if their horse had what it took to win and he would tell them yes or no. Terry was very honest and expected everyone to be that way with him. He was quiet unless you could get him to talk about horses, then you were in. He even gave me one of his prize colts to help me train so that I could be in the high school rodeo class. However when I showed up to my event, no one else came from my school so I had to join Marsh Valley Idaho's school. One of my dad's clients lived there and his son was in the cutting also, so it turned out to be ok. I won and got to go to State and I won 1st place there. My dad was my hero. He became my dad when I was 5 - as my mom married Terry (Judy Passey Hymas). I loved living on the farm. I remember my dad hollering at me to come get lunch when I was about 10 or so. I was up outside the milk barn brushing my Pony, named Blue. I had forgotten that he had hollered about lunch and when I saw him coming through the gate and across the field- i knew I better run, I decided to go the way around him, but knew I better shut the gate (sheep were in the field) . I tried my fastest to shut it and loop the rope around it but it didnt matter. My dad (Terry) jumped the fence and that willow he had in his hand was catching my rear end every other step. I remember hearing him tell people that story for years. He would always say, "do you think you can outrun me? " I would have to say No, cuz he could always catch me and I was fast, but he had long legs...... He loved to hear my imagination stories. I was always the indian (with braids) and I would go up to get milk cows and ride Blue bareback.
