Vera Sue (Miller) Davis of Franklin, Indiana United States was born on July 21, 1933 at Indianapolis, IN to Rupert Austin Miller and Birdie Mae Miller. She has siblings Michael L. Miller, William Spencer Miller, Frank Rupert Miller, James Joesph Miller, George Erwin Miller, David Kenneth Miller, and Jeffery Andrew Miller. Vera Miller married Morris Wayne Davis in August 1956, and they were married until Morris' death on June 19, 2012.

In 1933, in the year that Vera Sue (Miller) was born, Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. She told him that her priorities would be a 40-hour work week, a minimum wage, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, abolition of child labor, direct federal aid to the states for unemployment relief, Social Security, a revitalized federal employment service, and universal health insurance. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.

In 1956, on May 20th, the U.S. tested the first hydrogen bomb dropped from a plane over Bikini Atoll. Previously, hydrogen bombs had only been tested on the ground. The Atomic Age moved forward.
