Victor Leslie Ball of Thornbury, City of Darebin County, VIC Australia was born on August 28, 1900 in Dandenong, City of Greater Dandenong County to Sophia Sulis and Robert Ball. Victor Ball had siblings Sophia Jane (Ball) Kelly, William Weeks Ball, Louisa Ellen Ball, Ruby May Ball, Robert John Henry Ball, Edward Leonard Ball, Frederick James Ball, and Walter Clifford Ball. He married Liela Doris Wilson in 1923. He would also marry Milene Oakley in 1941. Victor Ball died at age 82 years old in November 1982 in Thornbury, City of Darebin County.

In 1900, in the year that Victor Leslie Ball was born, Carrie Chapman Catt succeeded Susan B. Anthony as the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. NAWSA was created by Anthony in 1890 in order to fight for the right of women to vote in the United States. Membership in NAWSA began at 7,000 and in the decades of the struggle - women didn't get the right to vote until 1920 - membership rose to 2 million.

In 1927, Victor was 27 years old when the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".
