He had siblings Annie Williams, Clara Rebecca (Williams) Speedie, Ernest Albert Williams, Edgar Harry Williams, Frances Elizabeth Williams, William Henry Williams, Charles Williams, James Miller Williams, and Emma Maria (Williams) Peirce. William Williams died at age 84 years old in 1952 in Chelsea.

In 1868, in the year that William Charles Williams was born, on February 24th, three days after his attempt to dismiss United States Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton - who was opposed to Johnson's leniency towards the former Confederacy - the US House of Representatives voted (126 to 47) to impeach Andrew Johnson. Johnson was later acquitted in the Senate by one vote short of the required 2/3rds.Senators crossed party lines to keep Johnson as President.

In 1883, William was just 15 years old when from August 26th through August 27th, Krakatoa - in Indonesia - erupted. 70% of the island - 163 villages - were destroyed and more than 36,400 people were killed by the eruption and the tsunami resulting from it. It was one of the deadliest volcanic eruptions ever.
