William Frederick Mihan 1865 - 1919

William Frederick Mihan of Melbourne East Australia was born in 1865 to Frederick August Mihan and Paulina Florentine Scholtz Mihan. He had siblings Agnes Christine Mihan, Frederick William Miehen, Louisa (Mihan) Gerlach, Charles Albert Mihan, Mina Hermina Mihan, and Emil Rudolph Mihan. He married Mary Ann (Clifford) Mihan, and had children Alfred Ernest Mihan, Leslie Harold Mihan, Leslie Harold Mihan, James Mihan, and Jessie Violet Mihan. William Mihan died at age 54 years old in 1919 in Melbourne East.

In 1865, in the year that William Frederick Mihan was born, on April 9th, Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union Army at Appomattox Court House. Lee's surrender led to a series of surrenders in the Confederacy and in 1866 President Johnson issued a "Proclamation—Declaring that Peace, Order, Tranquility, and Civil Authority Now Exists in and Throughout the Whole of the United States of America".
