He had siblings James Richard Harrap, Adelaide Madeline Harrap, Nellie Elizabeth Harrap, Ernest David Harrap, Emily May Harrap, Mary Ann Harrap, Wilford Patrick Harrap, Caroline Margaret Harrap, and Mabel Lillian Sarah Harrap. William Harrap died at age 37 years old in 1923 in Yarram.

In 1886, in the year that William Harrap was born, on February 14th, the first train left Los Angeles for the East -by the way of the transcontinental railroad - with a cargo of oranges. Due to irrigation and the import of water, Los Angeles was the ideal place to grow oranges - which became a popular addition to Christmas stockings.

In 1892, he was only 6 years old when on January 1st, Ellis Island opened to process immigrants. 700 passed through on the first day - in the first year, 450,000 were processed. The processing center was originally a 3 story wooden building - with outbuildings - that burned down a few years later.
