    William Lish Edney was born on August 19, 1915 in Unicoi County, Tennessee, United States of America to parents Robert Ambers Edney (1884-1976) and Nancy Ann Vanover Edney (1888-1969). He grew up with siblings Myrtle Edney White (1910-1986), Nola Edney Hardin (1913-1993), Elmer L Edney (1920-2004), Robert Lincoln Edney (1924-2014), and V.E. Edney (1932-2006). He married Mildred Gertrude Hensley Edney (1924-2014) on June 17, 1939 in Scott County, Virginia, USA and together the couple had two children; Jimmy L Edney (1944-2017) and David Lee Edney (1948-1968). William registered for the draft on October 16, 1940, in Unicoi, Tennessee, as part of the Selective Service Act during World War II. At the time of his draft registration, William was employed by his father, Robert Edney. He then enlisted in the United States Army on April 11, 1944, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He held the rank of Private. William was admitted to military service in August 1944 but was discharged in the same month due to a pre-existing disease.

William Lish Edney Obituary
William Lish Edney, age 95, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Erwin Health Care Center.

Mr. Edney was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Robert and Nancy Edney. He was a Laborer for Clinchfield Railroad until his retirement, after thirty one years of service. Mr. Edney was a member of Erwin Pentecostal Holiness Church. He served in the United States Army. Other than his parents Lish is preceded in death by one son, David Lee "Toby" Edney, brothers, Harrison, Conley, Elmer, and V.E. Edney, and sisters, Myrtle White, Nola Hardin, and Gladys Edney.

Mr. Edney is survived by: Wife of 71 years: Mildred Gertrude Hensley Edney of Erwin; Sons: Jimmy Edney and wife, Pat of Erwin, Charles "Chuck" Edney and wife, Gloria of Raleigh, NC, Terry "Butch" Edney of Erwin, Michael Edney and wife, Kathy of Erwin; Daughters: Mary Doty of Erwin, Marie Keller of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; Numerous Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren; and Brothers: Bobby Edney of Greeneville, R.L. Edney of Erwin.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Earl Ragland will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Jamie Hughes. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM until service time at Valley Funeral Home.

Committal services will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at McInturff Cemetery. Those attending the committal service will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be notified by the family. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at www.valleyfuneralhome.net.
