    William was a law enforcement officer. Records on him do not always list both middle names as he was an oddity that way. From a photo of him is his 40s, he was about 6 feet tall and with his moustache, he somewhat resembled the famous lawman of the 19th century, Wyatt Earp. He wed on April 2,1893 in Vernon County, Missouri to Mary Ellen Cornelius, b. Nov. 1873 and had 2 children, Florence J. & Carrie May Leake whom are mentioned here as further known info is unavailable..

In 1864, in the year that William Wilson Israel Leake was born, on February 25th, the first prisoners arrived at Andersonville Prison in Georgia. Andersonville became notorious for the conditions that Union prisoners endured. 500 prisoners had left from Richmond, Virginia the week before - eventually 13,000 prisoners would die at the prison.
