Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Wilma

Wilma Veach was raised the daughter of a cattle farmer, Ike Veach, who also at times was a barber and a sherriff. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University before marrying Thurman Scott. Thurman was called to the ministry of the Southern Baptist church and attended seminary after the birth of their daughter Nancy Lynn. Wilma managed resources very wisely during the depression and kept her family and others supplied at times by her frugal creativity. Thurman fell ill with an aneurysm of the heart that led to his death in the late 1950s and Wilma nursed him through his last days while working a job and attending college at University of Arkansas initially intending to become a nurse and changing her major to become a school teacher on the advice of a physician as she was quite petite and had mild scoliosis and he felt she would not be able to lift patients as nursing required. She was our wonderful grandmother and helped raise us as her daughter was handicapped and required much help in managing a household. We all remember Nanny with great love and affection as she was always dedicated both to family and doing for others. She spent many years teaching Sunday School at FIrst Baptist of Elgin, IL and later First Baptist in Charlottesville, VA before moving to Texas when Alzheimer's left her unable to take care of herself and her son took her from her daughter's home to live with him until her death in Dallas Tx.
