Zula Helen (Harmon) Lowry of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida was born on June 6, 1902 in Tennessee United States. Zula was baptized at Miami Gardens Church of Christ in Miami Gardens, FL. She was the parent of Robert E. Lowry Jr.. She married Robert E. Lowry Sr. (Ed), and they had children Mary Elizabeth (Lowry) Wooldridge, Helen Isle Lowry Mack, and Barbara Ann Lowry Adams. Zula Lowry died at age 79 years old in May 1982 in Miami, and was buried in 1982 at Woodlawn Park 260 SW 8th St, in Miami.

    Spouse Ed Lowry who cheated on her and left her alone with four children to support. He remarried, she did not. She worked long hours in a school cafeteria to support her children and brought home food so they would be able to eat. I never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. Children: Elizabeth Lowry Wooldridge, Robert E. Lowry, Jr., Helen Lowry Mack, Barbara Lowry Adams.

The company that he worked for needed to find a way to control humidity and by solving this problem, Carrier created a system that could be used for cooling the rooms of a house. In 1912, when she was just 10 years old, in October, former President Theodore Roosevelt was shot, but not killed, while campaigning for another term as President with the newly created Bull Moose (Progressive) Party. John Schrank was a Bavarian-born saloon-keeper from New York who had been stalking Roosevelt when he shot him just before a campaign speech. Shot in the chest (and showing the audience his bloody shirt), Roosevelt went on to give a 55 to 90 minute talk (reports vary on the length) before being treated for the injury. After 8 days in the hospital, Roosevelt went back on the campaign trail.
