Mount Vernon - Elliott was born March 23, 1922, in Mount Vernon, WA and passed away June 22, 2022, at the age of 100!
His maternal grandparents homesteaded on Fir Island and his paternal grandparents came from Seattle to Mount Vernon in 1890. His grandfather built the first concrete building in Mount Vernon (the former site of Hugo Helmer Music Co and now Easton's Books, Inc.) where he operated a grocery store. His parents, Arthur E and Beatrice Lee Johnson were in real estate and owned and operated Johnson Realty.
Elliott was a member of the Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and DeMoley and graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Mount Vernon Junior College (now Skagit Valley College), and the University of Washington. Before graduating from UW, he enlisted in the Navy. Upon graduating from UW, he attended Midshipmen's School at Notre Dame University and graduated as 2nd Lieutenant. He left for active duty in 1944 and was stationed in the British Solomon Islands.
After WWII he returned to Mount Vernon. He was employed as a bank teller for one year and then entered the real estate business where he remained as the owner of Johnson Realty on Riverside Drive until his retirement.
Elliott was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mason's, Elks Club and 75 years with the Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club with 72 years of perfect attendance. His civic involvement includes President of the Skagit County Multiple Listing Bureau, President of the Skagit County Board of Realtors, member of the Mount Vernon Planning Commission, two terms with the Mount Vernon City Council, member of the Board of Directors with the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Board of Directors with the Skagit County Historical Society.
Elliott Joined Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club in 1947 and was President of the club in 1958. He was Lt. Governor from 1970-71 and Governor of the Pacific Northwest District from 1976-77. Elliott was awarded the Paul Harris award from the Rotary Club of Greater Clark County in 2019. He was mystified and touched to be honored by a service organization other than Kiwanis!
Ten days prior to being shipped out, Elliott married Eileen Willard. They were married until her death in 1991. Together they raised five children: Nancy Sayer (Roger), Elliott W. Johnson, deceased (Vicki), Mary Carlson (Brad), Rose Simonseth (Tom, deceased), and Margaret Neudorfer (Bill). He had ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Later Elliott married Marybelle Pedersen which added a daughter, Janet Lund (Jeff), 2 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Marybelle died in 2012. In addition to those listed above, he was preceded in death his brother, Keith S. Johnson.
