Thurston's daughter Agnes was born March 23, 1911 at Briar Hill, NY. After her mother died in 1923, she lived with her brother Forrest in Pope Mills. She ended her life at the age of 19 by drinking lysol. She left a note stating that no one was responsible for her act and that she was simply discouraged over poor health. She left directions for Forrest about her funeral arrangements. The coroner noted that Agnes had a friend who had taken poison a few months earlier.
