Alfred Dawson
Alfred Dawson was born in Sydney in 1843. He was the son of William Dawson and Margaret McGrath. He became a ship's carpenter and travelled the world. When he was 19 he left the ship to join the Confederate forces in the American Civil War. A few years later he married Clara Anna Howard, whose parents were born in Norfolk, England, in Santiago, Chile. Some of his children were born in Chile before he took his family to Australia.
