Alfred Wirkkala

I have two studio photographs belonging to the WIRKKALA Family of Astoria, OR. The first is a photograph of Charles WIRKKALA which was taken in the 1890's at the Math Mathson Studio in Astoria, OR with Charles likely in his early teens at the time of photograph was taken. He is also identified as "Uncle". The second photograph is taken at the same studio, again likely in the 1890's and is of Alfred WIRKKALA who appears to be in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. The surname appears to be written WICKKALA on the photographs and Alfred's name is spelled "Afred" on the photograph.

I believe they are brothers and based on limited research was able to gather the following information regarding the family:

Charles or Karl Joonas WIRKKALA was b. 28 Dec 1882 in Kaustinen, Ostrobothnia, Finland to parents Jonas Johansson WIRKKALA (1843-1897) and Lena Kaisa ELIASDOTTER (1849-1931). Charles was one of 7 children born to this couple including John Alfred; Mary Elizabeth; Anna Josephine “Fina”; Kalle; Tilda or Tilta; Emma; and Charles WIRKKALA, all born between 1870 and 1882.

Charles married Anna Elizabeth KASTELL or KASTEL (1882-1978) on 1 Sept 1906 Astoria, OR and they had four children including Helen Margaret Elisabeth; Kerttu Kastell; Trudi Barbara Kastell; and Gertrude WIRKKALA, all born between 1907 and 1913. Charles died 28 Jul 1965 in Clatsop County, OR and he is buried in the Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, OR.

John Alfred Jonaksenp WIRKKALA was b. 7 Feb 1870 in Kaustinen, Finland to the same parents. John immigrated to the USA in 1888, and he returned to Finland and died 2 Feb 1913 in Kaustinen, Finland.
