Allen S. Johnson age 80 of Foster City, Michigan, passed on to eternal life on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford, MI., where he had been a patient for three weeks fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Allen Johnson was born in Foster City on June 17, 1928 the son of the late Swan Johnson and Anna Johnson.

Allen attended Long Fellow School and graduated from Felch High School in 1947.

He was employed with the Peterson Estate as a woods worker for two years. He then served his country in the U.S. Army 1st Engineer Aviation Battalion from 1950 to 1952 in San Antonio, TX.
After serving in the Army he was employed as a pulpwood jobber for Kimberly Clark Corp. from 1952 to 1967 and then with the Dickinson County Road Commission from 1967 to 1990 at which time he retired.

Allen was united in marriage to Shirley Robinette in July 30, 1955 in St. Joseph Church in Foster City. They made their home in Foster City where they raised five children.

Allen was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Foster City serving on the parish council and as a Eucharistic minister for 13 years. He also worked as the church custodian for 18 years.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Dickinson County Sportsmen's Club. Allen was an avid fisherman and hunter and looked forward to being at hunting camp each deer season with his boys.

Allen Johnson was survived by his wife Shirley Johnson; his children Joseph (Kristy) Johnson of Satartia, MS, Lana (Mark) Ostlund of Bark River, Rod (Michelle) Johnson of Vulcan, Dan (Darlene) Johnson of Kingsford, Larry (Rhonda) Johnson of Felch; grandchildren Tyler, Amanda, Stephanie, Erica, Cory, Abby, Zachary and Jenna; and his sister Ina Johnson of Hardwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents Swan Johnson and Anna Johnson and his granddaughter Rachel Ostlund.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
