Who says that we spoil our pets more today? I did not know that this fad of dressing animals (particularly dressing dogs) has been commonplace for years.
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of Willie HAMMEL of Gladstone, MI which was taken at the Emil Nelson Studio in Gladstone. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890’s with Willie likely about 4 years old at the time. Willie is dressed in a baker’s uniform in the photograph and holding a large loaf of bread so I’m wondering if his family owned a bakery or his father was a baker. I’m hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old portrait can be returned to the care of his family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

A photo of LT. WILLIAM "WILLIE" STRAUCH, asking "And how can I help?" Lt. Bill Strauch, Homicide Division, Detroit Police Department (Retired). This photo taken in 1967 at the peak of the Detroit riots. Lt. Strauch was with the entry team conducting a raid at a location where someone from above was firing at officers patrolling the street. The Thompson sub-machine gun was being used by the suspect to fire at under-armed police. The perpetrator became a casualty and the 'Tommy Gun' was "kept as evidence" by Strauch until after the riot was under control...about three years later. Lt. Strauch served DPD for twenty-five years. He was born in Oliver #1, Pennsylvania and passed in 2001. He was a U.S. Army veteran and graduated from Cass Tech High School. He raised six sons with his wife, Micky.

This is a photo passed along with other old photos - most people are unknown. Does anyone recognize this child? Her family? Could be Oliver, Forsyth, or Donnelly Unknown child. Photo among several passed along to me by Jessie Donnelly Oliver who was born in Perth Ontario Canada. She was born in 1876 and died in 1962.
Others have identified the woman seated on the far left as Appolonia (LERG) Luppert and the man at her right shoulder as Valentine Luppert, her first husband. It could be around the 1900s or so judging by the clothing. The location could be the Lansing, MI, homestead of the Lerg family. They probably all spoke German only.
