Bartolome Moya grew up in Santo Domingo, married, and had two children. Then, in 1968, he moved to the United States. When in the U.S., he worked a normal jobs as a travel agent and in a garage but also made money as a distributor of cocaine and heroin. His nickname was the "Shadow Kingpin", and he operated an especially deadly drug organization in New York City - particularly in the South Bronx.
Bartolome fled the United States after receiving a government-funded heart transplant. The U.S. Court Magistrate Aida Delgado ordered that Bartolome Moya be extradited to New York City, where he was wanted on drug trafficking, six murders, kidnapping, and bond jumping charges.
When Moya was arrested in the summer of 1993, doctors said he had a terminal heart disease and a federal court judge dismissed all charges and said he could spend his last days with relatives in Philadelphia. Moya received a $400,0000 heart transplant in February paid for by Pennsylvania Medicaid funds and then jumped a $250,000 bond and fled the United States.
He died a few years later.
Bartolome was the subject of an episode of Gangsters: America's Most Evil on June 4 2013 (The Shadow Kingpin: Bartolome Moya) - Season 2, episode 11 A summary of the episode: Moya and his chief enforcer, Andre Paige, led a deadly narcotics and extortion racket in New York City until the law caught up with them. I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
